EMF WAVES PROPAGATING FORWARD ELECTRICAL CHARGE THROUGH THE ATMOSPHERE
Albert Einstein did not develop anything new but as Dr. Anil Kumar, electrical engineer, puts it: "Einstein showed us light was energy". Now Dr. Kumar knows what he's talking about because he magically lights up concert stages with no electric cords - ala Tesla. He has invented generators that propel electricity a thousand feet through the air to power remote electrical items such as lights. I asked my lifelong friend John Saiz, fellow NMT engineering grad, about doing this electrical conveyance 3 decades ago (circa 1990) when cell phones were just entering the market. John was a NASA engineer working on wireless applications in the space shuttle then but was soon to become the "Chief Technician" of NASA or the "Big Kahuna" of space engineers. He touched those who touched the President. A big deal in a politically driven planet of humanoids. When I asked John 30 years ago "Why can't we transfer electrical power wirelessly?"; he immediately stopped talking and became reticent. I sensed then I had hit a nerve and the truth. Mr. John Saiz was always working on the cutting edge in the high dollar, envelope pushing, hush hush world of the "space race". Indeed, we know today that electrical energy or electricity can be and is transferred via Earth's atmosphere (air) as the circuit. It appears to me the public is introduced to technology about 15 years later than the first prototypes developed.
I can not comprehend energy without mass and apparently Einstein could neither. His most famous equation reports: E = MC2. Energy equals mass times the speed of light squared. We know that energy is work and/or heat from thermodynamics so lets make a reach and say MC2 equals work or maybe moving a mass some distance - hopefully useful work. Dr. Kumar said to me via bits and bytes over the web (email) that Einstein showed us there was a photon via mathematics since we can't physically weigh it at the present time. Light's energy is shown by flying here from our Sun and heating our Earth's surface, defining the classical thermodynamic expression of energy: Energy = Work + Heat. We have measured the speed of light@ 3E8 M/S. Albert put a speed limit on the Universe and said "C" , the speed of light, was as fast as we (anything) could go. Of course I hate speed limits and have many speeding tickets, given to me by men that hadn't a clue how they knew I was speeding (radar gun mechanics), to prove it. Thus said, it's insane to think God put a speed limit on the Universe. I'm quite confident that we humans will find motion of things faster than "C" in the decades, centuries and millenniums to come. My God is a just God - he has no speed limit, in his Universe there is nothing but Autobahn.
Einstein wasn't brilliant - but brighter than me to be sure. I figured out how to get to Einstein via Newton and I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. F=MA wins the Oscar in my movie. That is one cool equation and I seem to derive from it a lot. My derivation is a follows - using standard engineering notation through the keyboard the best I can: F=MA , F = MdV/dt , E = MdV/dt*dx , E = MC2. Pretty simple - bet Einstein thought so too.
The significance shown here though is energy and mass are dancing partners and as Solomon says "there is nothing new under the Sun". Thus it is with electricity. I don't see wireless technology as voodoo but as mass-energy transfer via the atmosphere. In order to understand something I have to visualize it working. With wireless electricity generation, I see a cylinder of magnets spinning and causing the air ions to flow radial outward from high to low potential where the ions collect on a flat plate capacitor until they reach the point of being released in a pack to do useful work. In any regards I see electric energy being transferred from particle to particle just as an electron collides and pushes itself through a copper wire. Electromagnetic energy is pushed through the atmosphere just like waves in the ocean only gaseous ions are the mass transferring energy and not water.
The Usefulness of the Spontaneous Potential Curve in Electric Logs of Wellbore Holes
A few decades (1994) ago I started on my Masters of Science in Engineering Mechanics with a Mechanics Option at NMT in Socorro, New Mexico, USA. I was interested in cleaning up produced water from Fruitland Coalbed Methane wells (2000' deep) so we could use it in the future instead of the current method of injecting it into very tight sands more than 10,000' deep where it likely will never be retrieved; especially since the insitu water at that depth is 10x more saline. Thus my topic was the use of ion exchange material to change the predominately NaHCO3 water to cleaner H2O, NaCl and CO2(g). It was fun. Then I got funded for studying the effects of injecting the Fruitland Coalbed Methane well production water into the overlying Ojo Alamo Sandstone in the San Juan Basin of the 4 Corners, USA (PhD Civil Engineering, NMSU). The Ojo Alamo Sandstone is used as potable well water at the shallow fringes of the San Juan Basin but has nearly the same Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) as the Fruitland Coalbed Methane well production water in areas of coalbed methane production, where it would be injected. Therefore it made perfect sense to inject these hundreds of millions of barrels (42 gallon) of production water into the adjacent very permeable Ojo Alamo Sandstone so in a hundred years or so we could tap them easily. It was so sensible in fact the "State of New Mexico" and "US Federal Government" immediately x-nayed the idea and never let it leave the ground from 1994 to 2008, while I was working the project sporadically. We've already (wasted) injected those 100s of 1,000,000s of 42 gallon barrels of pretty darn good water into 10,000' deep tight (lots wasted energy to create pressure to inject) sands containing primeval seawater.
In the process of mapping the water quality of the Ojo Alamo Sandstone throughout the San Juan Basin I found that the conventional method of calculating resistivity of the Ojo Alamo Sandstone water determined the water was 4 times worse physical quality than it actually was. The conventional method of determining water resistivity (Rw) from a spontaneous potential log curve uses a Nerst Equation whereby a "Shale Membrane" is used because of ignorance. The Rw is then converted into a corresponding NaCl or like solution for the TDS determination. Thus when I eliminated the "Shale Membrane" effect from the Nerst derivation my calculated Rw of the well's produced water matched the laboratory TDS measurements of the well's produced water consistently. This occurred in over a hundred wells where laboratory tests of produced water were available to correlate the Rw determination method.
On a wildcat program down in SW Texas on a Frio Sandstone well, I calculated that only water would be produced if we perf'd the Frio from my Rw determination from the SP log. We perf'd the Frio zones and produced water containing some insignificant amounts of natural gas. On another well in Texas, my client asked me if he should join into a workover of a natural gas well, again new perfs in the Frio Sandstone, and I said "By All Means!" after interpreting the producible petroleum volumes using my newly developed Rw determination from the SP method. He failed to join but found out soon that the new perfs were producing economically and without water as I had calculated. Below find the traditional Nerst Equation, just use Rw as [ion ]i and Rmf as [ion]o. Convert T to temperature at depth and assume Z as one (can manipulate). This method is proven for clean shallow sands (0' to 10,000') with TDS less than 100,000 ppm NaCl. The method may be usuable in other environments as well.
